South Orange Elks Lodge #1154 was established in 1909. The Lodge serves the communities of South Orange and Maplewood, NJ with a population of in excess of 40,000 residents.

The Order of Elks is a national fraternal organization with headquarters in Chicago and 2,224 subordinate Lodges in every State, the District of Columbia, Guam, the Philippines, the Canal Zone and Puerto Rico. Membership is limited to citizens of the United States, over twenty-one years of age who believe in God. Currently there are over 1,280,000 members of the Elks.

As Elks we strive to practice and promote the principles of Charity, Justice, Brotherly Love and Fidelity; to recognize a belief in God; to promote the welfare and the happiness of our Members; to quicken the spirit of American patriotism; to cultivate good fellowship; to perpetuate our order as a fraternal organization, demonstrating that Elks Care and Elks Share. The Elks are one of the largest and most active fraternal organizations in the world!

Programs sponsored by the Elks are quite extensive and far-reaching. The following is a partial list of the charitable work:

  • Community service: Donation of Lodge Facilities - Food Baskets - Senior Citizen Programs - Citizen of the Year Recognition Law Enforcement Officer Recognition - Teacher and Student Recognition
  • Drug Awareness: Aimed at educating children in primary grades of grammar school to the dangers of drugs - Materials also in High Schools - Doctors Offices - Hospitals - Clinics - and similar places open to the public
